Nordic walking offers plenty of benefits for health and fitness of each individual therefore it has become popular recently. The article intends to give basic Nordic walking instructions for everyone interested in taking up this sport.

Nordic walking involves walking with arms and legs working alternately: left leg to the front alongside with the right arm to the front, with a special pole which engages the upper body in the exercising. The pole should be stuck into the ground at 60 degree angle. We should push the arms in turns until they are straightened at the back. Nordic walking, which originated in Scandinavia doesn't burden the spine, nor hip or knee joints. It is possible thank to the fact that part of our weight is transferred onto the poles. It is safe, suggested even for pregnant women, the elderly or people with heart diseases. Nordic walking brings a low risk of getting injuries and it can be performed everywhere - in the park, forest, in the street at any season of the year.

What are the advantages of Nordic walking?

- strengthen leg, shoulder, chest and spine muscles

- prevents from heart attacks

While walking we become fitter, improve our posture, activate thinking, the whole blood circulation system and inner organs work better. Nordic walking burns twice as much calories as normal walking. We reduce tension in shoulders and arms.
