Adults learn more and more willingly, more people enrolls to various courses and trainings. Understanding adult learning will be easier after you reading this article.

Collecting diplomas

These days there more and more people begin studying at the age of 30, 40 or 50. Either they are forced to do that because their boss requires or they want to have their dreams from the past come true. Although adults learn differently from children they manage quite well with studying. Some people take up studying with a goal in mind, others treat it as a hobby and simply collect diplomas. It's a kind of fashion to improve ones skills and knowledge which pushes people to enroll to courses and trainings. It gives a feeling of achievement and satisfaction from achieving goals.

The number of people who see the chance of forgetting about everyday problems through learning is still increasing. In such a way, additional courses and postgraduate studies become a remedy for family and personal problems, it is a kind of painkiller. Various forms of learning require systematicness, in the same time they make it possible to plan our life somehow, for a couple of months or even years. Thank to this we can feel that we have power over our life. The fear and worries disappear, studying helps us forget about a toxic marriage, poor job where no one has ever appreciated our work. If we manage to get good grades or praises from teachers we feel better, we build self-confidence. Studies give us a chance to become admired by others and provides us with a drive that pushes us to activity. Some studies e.g. psychology, assertiveness are supposed to teach us cope with problems or understand people better. Some people even feel addicted from learning and this adrenaline rush linked with exams.

New people

There are also people who take up studies in order to meet new people, get new colleagues and find a circle of friends. This especially good for single people who can meet their second half or simply get out and talk with people with the same interests.

Brain's work

We have to take care of our brain so it worked properly all the time. The brain, in the same way as muscles, may become lazy and become less effective. This happens when we don't use it for many years. Therefore, it is crucial for our brain to work all the time and activate it systematically. It would be a good idea to do crosswords, play scrabble, read newspapers and magazines not necessarily connected with our work. Don't avoid discussions and formulating arguments and counterarguments. Above all, every person should be open minded and willing to take up new challenges as this helps create new opinions and defend old ones better.

Adults' memory

Adults often claim they don't have such a good memory as they used to have. It isn't totally true because a short-term memory in adults is worse, however, long-term memory works much better than in children and teenagers. Adults find it problematic to learn a lot at once so it is advisable for them to divide the material into parts, repeat often and make long breaks between the repetitions. The rule that you should learn and forget students follow does not apply to adult who remember better what they have learned for a long period of time.
