We all know that obesity increases the risk of many types of cancer, no one knew if surgery would reduce the risk of cancer. A new study published in the Lancet Oncology revealed that weight loss surgery is 42 percent less likely to develop cancer. What may be surprising, it does not help men to reduce the risk of cancer. The study was performed on 2000 Swedish patients who had weight surgery, they were followed for over a decade. To compare the results, there was also a control group of the similar size. What is the most probably hormones are the explanation of the link between the weight-loss surgery and cancer risk. This is because several cancers are linked to female sex hormone estrogen. Two most common cancers such breast and endometrial cancer are linked to high levels of estrogen.
