Aromatherapy is a form of healing in which massages and products contain essential oils. Extracted from herbs or plants essential oils are said to be good for many illnesses and complaints.






Aromatherapy is a therapy which uses essential oils extracted from herbs and plants to soothe tensions and remove complaints. Oils are extracted from various parts of plants, it depends on the species, so there are essential oils that come from leaves, flowers, roots, seed, fruit, bark or resin. The oil is diluted with water or fragrance-free oil e.g. jojoba oil to create products that can be rubbed and absorbed into skin, inhaled, added to the bath or applied in the form of compresses.

History

Essential oils were used in the ancient times, that was the medicine of the time. For instance, eucalyptus essential oils were said to clean the airways and juniper is a successful painkiller for muscle pains. Modern aromatherapy dates back to the 20s when a famous French chemist noticed healing properties of lavender oil. His hand got burned by some qualifications, they usually have massage courses or are entitled to perform other forms of therapy. There's also a possibility to learn hot to use aromatherapy and try self-treatment at home.

What to heal
Aromatherapy is based on two properties of our bodies: smell and absorbing abilities of the skin. Inhaling some fragrances stimulates the brain to produce chemical substances that prevent stress and reduce tiredness, other fragrances absorbed by skin have healing effects and help us overcome diseases and complaints.

Herbal essential oils

Geranium essential oil
It is extracted from plant leaves. It has a pungent smell that is why it is good for herbal inhalations, baths or massages. If it is diluted it can be used for mouth washing and disinfecting. It is a basic element of oils that are supposed to relieve from stress, treat acne, zits and small injuries.

Eucalyptus essential oil
It is extracted from plant leaves. It has a pungent, stimulating fragrance similar to camphor. It is perfect for inhalations, compresses, baths and massages. It helps with coughing up, soothes muscle pains, reduces tiredness and scares insects off.

Juniper essential oil
It is extracted from plants' fruit. It has a sharp smell which is good for inhalations, baths, compresses and massages. It has relaxing effects and aromatherapists use it for soothing muscle cramps and curing eczemas.

Jasmine essential oil
It is extracted from flowers of the plant. It has a delicate smell used for facial masks and baths for its relaxing properties.

Lavender essential oil
It is extracted from flowering shoot. It has sharp, sweet smell. The oil is used for inhalations, baths, compresses and massages. It reduces stress, heals injuries and skin burns. It is said to have antiseptic and relaxing properties.

Mint essential oil
Extracted from plant's leaves it has fresh, stimulating smell. The oil is used for inhalations, baths and mouth washing. It is able to cure indigestion, sore throats, ulcers and skin itching, it scares insects off.

Rose essential oil
The oil is extracted from rose petals. It is used in baths, massage therapists like rose oils for their soothing and relaxing effects. They are said to reduce menstrual pains and other female complaints.

Mayweed essential oil
Extracted from dry flowers of the plant. It is used for inhalations, baths, compresses, cosmetic face masks and massages. It has calming, relaxing and antiseptic effects so it fastens healing burns, spots, scars and curing pain aches.

Pine essential oil
It is extracted from pine shoot. It has stimulating forest fragrance. It is used to reduce muscle pains and help in coughing up mucus from the airways.

Salvia essential oil
It is extracted from flowering shoot peaks. It is used for inhalations, compresses, baths and massages. It reduces stress and anxiety, heals skin flares and facilitates coughing up.

Massage is the best friend of aromatherapy as it helps to reduce stress and remove pains. Face massages are helpful in removing headaches, sinus headaches and back massages removes abdominal pains and premenstrual syndrome. Hot baths with essential oils are advisable for everyone. You just need to choose the oil to have either stimulating or relaxing effects.
