Slow Life Movement is a continuation of Slow Food Movement which concentrates on restoring balance in people's life. It praises slowness and opposes hectic pace of life so popular nightmare of our times.

In 1999 Geir Berthelsen invented The World Institute of Slowness. The main motto of Slow Life movement is "Slow Planet" which opposes the globalization and uniformity of life.
Modern culture makes our life task-orientated. People constantly raise standards of their performance, climb career ladder, gather material goods and forget about everything which makes life meaningful. A Slow Life expert said: "The only certain thing in our life is the fact that everything changes. A pace of changes quickens. If you don't want to lose clout, you'd better hurry up - this is the message the world gives. Meanwhile, it's good to remember that our basic needs will never change. The need to be noticed and appreciated. The need to belong to a group, need of closeness, care and a little bit of love. All those needs can be fulfilled only through a slow relation with other people. By opposing global changes we have to rediscover peace, calmness, contemplation and unity. This is the only way to renovate our life."
Slow is not only about a slower pace of life because not everyone is made to stop active pace of life. Some people just fulfill in their work and they adore a hectic life. So if a person feels very well in the role of a manager who works over 12 hours a day, moreover, has plenty of additional tasks it is ok. The problem starts when such a person isn't able to relax and treats holidays as a task, simply finds weekends a waste of time and when a person looses deep and intense contact and closeness with family and friends. Therefore, it's important to make all decisions consciously, to find balance between the career, building interpersonal relations, entertaining and spirituality.
5 Commandments of Slow Life:
1. Slow down - you won't notice the beauty surrounding you in a rush.
2. Cherish relationships with people - not shallow, artificial ones but those deep relationship with the closest ones.
3. Focus on spirituality - enrich your own life, contemplate nature and art, make a ritual of a meal, spend time on your hobby.
4. Learn to live consciously - don't allow the stereotypes, pressure and rat race obscure the most precious things in life.
5. Define your priorities - think what's the most important in your life and concentrate your energy on achieving it.
