How to stop snoring? Although it is bothersome mostly for people sleeping with us, maybe that would be a good idea to read about tips on how to stop snoring.

People snore when the air flow is obstructed in the nose or the mouth, this produces a loud noise which partners can't bear. This can have various reasons, from obstruction of the nasal airways, muscle tension of the jaw which causes dislocation of the jaw. It can also be caused by weakness of throat and tongue muscles, fat concentration around the throat and long soft palate and uvula tissue which are located at the back of the mouth. There are also cases of seasonal allergies which cause snoring and deviated septum problem (a crooked cartilage), but this demands a surgery to straighten it out. Soring can lead to several conditions such as decreased libido or inability to focus, feeling sleepy during the day.

What are the ideas on how to stop snoring?

Avoid drinking alcohol and taking certain medications such as tranquilizers, sleeping pills. They relax the muscles in the air passage and cause obstruction which result in producing loud snoring noise.

Eat honey before sleeping and avoid large meals before going to bed, this pushes up the diaphragm and limits passage ways.

Don't eat chocolate, cookies, pizza or cakes. Dairy products are also inadvisable since they can cause mucus build-up in the air passage.

A regular sleep routine should help you prevent yourself from snoring.

Sleep on your side instead of the back, if you constantly return to lying on your back, attach a tennis ball to the back of your pyjamas, this will force you to sleep on your back. When you're lying on the back your tongue and soft palate rests against the back of your throat and blocks the air passage.

Being obese or overweight increases the risk of snoring, try to loose some weight so as to make more space for the air flow.

Change the pillow you sleep if it's too soft, turn to firmer ones. You should also raise your head to reduce snoring, sleeping on several pillows should help.

If your inhale steam before sleeping or put humidifier in the bedroom your throat will be moisturized and therefore breathe better.

Buy nasal strips and tape your nose before going to sleep, this opens the nose and increases the area where the air can flow.

A good herbal treatment is a nettle tea you should drink before going to sleep, it reduces the inflammations of the airways.

Purchasing and taking anti-snoring pills or sprays is also a good idea but if you keep snoring regardless of that contact a medical practitioner. maybe a surgery will be needed.
