You are in: Main Page / Medical articles / Holidays / First Aid Travel Kit

When traveling to any place in the world you shouldn't forget about taking a first aid travel kit as such kits may help you enjoy your holidays more and prevent from becoming ill.

On the one hand, the first aid travel kit should contain medications for trivial complaints you can use on your own and on the other hand it should include all the drugs you regularly take. The decision what medications to take belongs to you as you perfectly know your weak points. The list below therefore should suit as a hint, you need to adapt it to your needs.

1. Dressing material, sticking plaster, lint and elastic bandages.

2. Disinfectants.

3. Ordinary painkillers that contains paracetamol - they can only help in reducing slightly raised temperature.

4. Nose drops that reduce swelling and runny nose.

5. The mixture of salts which will balance the loss of water and salts and help overcome diarrhea.

6. The drug which will prevent you from diarrhea, but it should not be used for more than two days.

7. Laxatives - for those who have tendency for obstructions.

8. Anti-fungoids - for people who have tendency to get fungi infections.

9. Suncream and sun blocker which will prevent from sunburns
10. Insect repellents.

11. Condoms which will prevent from getting sexually transmitted diseases.

There are certain safety measures that should be taken during journeys. General activities which reduce the risk of getting diarrhea, thyphoid cholera or hepatitis include:
- drink only mineral or boiled water
- eat boiled, fried or stew meals - bacteria die in heat
- avoid ice cubes, ice-cream and tap water
- don't eat vegetables and fruit you can't peel

How should you behave during the holidays?

1. After a long flight you should take a one-day long rest to heal jet-lag.

2. You should adapt the lifestyle of the locals. For example, in tropical countries people get up early, relax and take a nap in the midday. The peak of their activity is reached in the evening or at night.

3. Physical activity helps the organism to adapt to a climate during holidays but you should avoid strenuous exercises.

4. Drink plenty of water, especially if in tropical climate.

5. Don't walk bare foot - there is a risk of getting bitten by insects or poisonous animals or getting infected by Old World hookworm.

6. You shouldn't swim in lakes and rivers n Africa and South America - it would pose a risk of getting schistomatosis.

7. In tropical countries, wear light clothes that absorb sweat.
