You are in: Main Page / Medical articles / Fitness / Ways to Motivate Yourself

Motivation is crucial in every aspect of our life, no matter what we do we need a reason to do everything. The same is with exercising, without motivation you won't manage to stick to your exercise routine for long. So before taking up a new fitness activity ask yourself a question: Why should I exercise? The more ideas for an answer, the more motivation you get. The article presents several ways to motivate yourself to exercising.

Make sure you have both short term and long term motivation. Everyone wants to have a beautiful and slim body but people rarely have motivation to do exercises now. There is a short term motivation you may lack, most of us say to themselves "I'll do it tomorrow" whereas every exercise counts. The sooner you start them, the better. Apply the same principle to your diet/exercise routine as you apply to money saving. You realize that every cent here and there can save thousands, the same with exercising - move more and you will look better.
There are several things you can do to increase motivation:
1. You can hire a personal trainer - someone who really knows how to motivate people to exercise, he/she may use various techniques but there is one effect - you don't sit on a coach anymore. First of all, it is an expensive thing to have a personal trainer hired so you will be less likely to miss appointments.
2. Workout with a friend - you will motivate each other and overcome the laziness everyone faces from time to time. If someone is counting on you ro show up at the gym, it's much easier to stand up from the sofa and move for the meeting.
3. Write down your goals - keep a diary of your plans and achievements. Keeping track of your weekly progress will help you remember about your goals and stick to a diet and exercising as long as you need it.
4. Browse through the forums - you can read how others are active and manage to exercise regularly, if they can do it, you will feel able to achieve success too. The first few month are tough, so if you start completely new life search for weight loss success stories and before and after pictures that will make you stay motivated.
