You are in: Main Page / Medical articles / Diseases / Varicose Veins Treatment

Varicose veins treatment is quite hard, yet, there are certain procedures which can be performed in order to help people overcome problems with aching legs and enlarged and twisted veins.

Varicose veins of legs can develop as a result of impairment of walls and venous valves or occlusion of deep veins, however, the clear cause is yet to be known. There are two types of varicose veins we know, open and close. They most often occur on lower limbs in people who work standing, however, they can occur elsewhere. A person with varicose veins complains about aching, heavy legs and sometimes shooting pains or muscle cramps so it is advisable to avoid long walks or standing for a long period of time.

Unfortunately, there are no pharmaceuticals which would heal or prevent varicose veins effectively. Fortunately, there are some rules a person with varicose veins should follow in order to fight with this complaint. For instance, you can frequently elevate legs, take baths in salt water or showers of alternating warm and cold water. Elastic stockings are not advised for those who suffer from open varicose veins, in severe conditions a surgery may be essential.

Apart from surgical treatment there are several other things you can do in order to heal varicose veins. First of all, sclerotherapy (injection of the medicine) which is a popular form of therapy that brings benefits without complications. Other ways of treatment are called endovenous laser and radiofrequency ablation which require expensive equipment and special training for doctors. After the procedure, which is very effective, a follow-up treatment is essential.
