Damaged knee joints prevent from performing certain activities freely and effectively. The knee joint and cartilage can be repaired and prevented if we know what should be done. The article intends to give some information about the injuries of the knees.

The knee joint is one of the biggest and the most susceptible to injuries joint in the whole human body. Its proper work is also crucial to move lower limbs without problems. That is why it demands appropriate care and attention.
A small dose of anatomy...
A knee joint joins the upper leg with the lower leg. It is constructed from thigh bone, tibial bone and a knee cap. It is strengthened by numerous ligaments, between the bones there are cartilages called articular meniscus. This particular joint is responsible for flexion and extension of limbs, when the knee is bended it can also make rotatory moves.
Where do the contusions come from?
The exploitation of joints, fashion for extreme sports and obesity result in more and more common occurrence of contusions of the knee. It's essential not to neglect even the smallest contusions because they may lead to serious consequences. Above all, healing such neglected injuries is long-lasting and difficult. Therefore, regardless the type of sport practiced one should pay attention to moving legs properly and strengthen muscles around the knee. The worst thing we can do is to get involved in sports which exceed our abilities and preparations. The unprepared body parts are much more exposed to injuries because they can't stabilize the joint.
Frequent injuries involve:
- injuries to sacral ligament - an important sign of the injury is a clearly audible crack. Other symptoms include growing hematoma and a feeling of instability of the knee. The treatment involves the puncture of the knee and immobilization of the limb, sometimes a surgical procedure is essential.
- break of the meniscus - the contusion could happen after a single injury, a strong hit to the bended knee from a side, or (which happens more often) as a result of plenty of micro injuries that a person had gone through. The symptom of a broken meniscus is the immobility or even blockage of the knee which makes bending and extending impossible. The injury of the meniscus is usually accompanied by the articular hydrops, pain and replacement of the knee from time to time. The treatment can be both surgical and non-surgical. Rehabilitation after the contusion is important to prevent from disappearing of muscles.
- dislocation of the knee cap - it involves dislocating the knee cap from its position. The symptoms include pain, hematoma and swollen knee and the limited mobility of the joint. This type of dislocation can be easily reduced. However, one should consult a doctor because th contusion is often associated with other injuries of the knee joint.
The first aid for all types of knee joint injuries should immobilize the lower limb and transport the patient to the doctor as quickly as possible.
Prevention
If we suffer from any knee pains we should contact the medical practitioner as soon as possible so as he could treat all the abnormalities of and around the knee joint. The most important preventive measure is a warm-up before each single physical activity. We should also avoid practising sports seasonal without a proper preparation. It is always better to start from less demanding activities and increase the strain gradually, this will prepare the organism for exercising.
We should remember though that treating injuries of the knee joint is very difficult or even impossible to be completed totally. Therefore, joints require appropriate care and awareness of the preventive measures that work.
