Bulimia nervosa affects many women and young girls who are influenced by the omnipresent trend for being slim and beautiful. The article presents symptoms of bulimia nervosa and tells how you can cope with this life-threatening disease?

Bulimia nervosa, similarly to anorexia, affects mostly women, sportsmen, actors and actresses and above all, models. However, bulimia's symptoms are different from those of anorexia. Firstly, a person suffering from bulimia doesn't have to be slim at all! In bulimia a patient provokes vomiting to remove eaten products and it affects people who want to loose weight at any cost. To achieve a desired result they go the toilette after each meal in order to throw up, take laxatives and all kinds of dietary pills, drink plenty of alcohol or take drugs but the primary purpose of all these activities is to vomit. With time, this activity is performed systematically and transforms into a serious disease, bulimia nervosa. It is a really dangerous because it damages the digestive tract, stomach, liver and emaciates the organism. It's worth noting that people who fast claim that they feel well. Why is that so? If you're, for any reason, deprived of food for a long time, you will feel nagging and persistent hunger. But if you overcome the appetite the hunger will disappear and we'll feel healthy. We will have an astonishing clarity of thoughts, it is a specific feeling which is required by certain religions to get closer to God. Anorexia and bulimia sufferers have totally different goals, they believe its' good for them and for their figures. And although they may think clearly they are gradually losing physical strength, it can be noticed that a person who doesn't eat for a long time looses consciousness quite often.
Symptoms of bulima nervosa:
1. Recurring attacks of uncontrolled stuffing oneself. This usually involves eating, within short period of time, the amounts of food that for normal people would be impossible to eat in similar circumstances. People also don't have control over these attacks of overeating.
2. Taking up compensatory activities which are meant to help avoid gaining weight e.g. vomiting, taking laxatives and diuretics, fasting, intensive and strenuous exercising.
3. Attacks of eating and doing activities which prevent from gaining weight occur twice a week for at least three months.
4. Self-confidence is based purely on body shape and body mass.
5. These are not anorexia symptoms.
Bulimia was precisely described quite recently, in 1987 and it was named Bulimia nervosa. The term is devoted to people who fight for the desired weight through the compensatory behavior such as throwing up. Bulimia is a combination and stuffing oneself and attempts of removing the food from the organism through various ways e.g. vomiting, laxatives or diuretics.
Bulimia sufferers realize they have problem with enormous hunger which makes them eat huge amounts of food, they try to fight with it in many ways. They go on a diet and try to reduce the amount of food eaten, however, even the slightest departure from the diet provokes uncontrolled stuffing himself. The fact that stuffing stomach to the maximum effects in vomiting is one reason for the gluttony.
The average calorie intake during the attack is considered to be around 3500 kcal, but it can be more than 10000 kcal as well. The attack frequency is different, they may occur often (several attacks a day) or very rarely.
