Feta - a Greek cheese has more calcium than cow's cheese, less calories than an ordinary cheese. It protects from osteoporosis and fastens metabolism. The article describes the properties of feta cheese and gives a recipe for a delicious healthy meal.

Feta comes from Greece, the original one is made of goat's and sheep milk which is salted and cured in a brine solution. Such mixture makes it the top of healthy cheeses. Milk from sheep in the north of Greece contains bacteria which protect from getting food poisoning caused by parasites. Goat's and sheep's milk contain more calcium and phosphorus than cow's milk. Those two elements guarantee maintaining healthy and strong bones for a long time.

Feta cheese can be bought in almost each grocery store. The original one differs from the fakes with structure and consistency. Is can range from soft to semi-hard, with a tangy, salty flavor. The packaging should contain PDO (protected designation of origin) sign which means that at least one stage of production is done in Greece.

Over 30% of women suffers from osteoporosis that is usually caused by a low-calcium diet. The organism is able to take advantage of calcium contained in feta cheese thank to the phosphorus which combines with casein. The meal consisting of sea fish and feta cheese ensures the best calcium absorbtion. Fish are rich in vitamin D which affects absorbtion of this element. A diet rich in calcium decreases the risk of breaking bones in the elderly almost by half.

Not only does feta guarantee healthy and strong bones but also a beautiful body. Calcium is essential for the organism not to store fat but change it into the energy. If you want the organism to digest food you have to provide it with calories in 30% coming from calcium, found in feta cheese. Peptide hormones are a by-product of the metabolism and they block the appetite which results in slim and thin figure. Moreover, feta influences the skin condition as it contains zinc that prevents from getting skin inflammations. In addition to that, feta is a reservoir of vitamin B which strengthens effect of zinc.

A healthy recipe

Ingredients (4 servings):
800 g minced lamb or pork
100 g feta cheese
5 small tomatoes
4 tbsp flour
1 egg
1 potato
2 onions, white and red
1 cucumber
black olives
lettuce leaves
oil
salt

Preparation:

Peel the potato and remove the juice. Chop white onion and mix the potato and onion with minced meat, an egg and spices. Shape the meat into small balls and coat it with flour. Rinse and dry the lettuce. Cut feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumber and red onion. Heat the oil on a frying pan and fry the meat. Put the lettuce and other vegetables with feta cheese and meat onto a serving plate. Pour vinaigrette on top.
