You are in: Main Page / Medical articles / Children / Lulling a baby

Lulling a baby is difficult and many parents don't know how to do that. The article presents some suggestions and ideas concerning lulling a baby.

It's important to keep the light dim even while feeding the baby during the night. This will teach it that the night is for sleeping and the day for eating. While feeding the baby you should remember to keep the child awake, or else put it to a crib. If we let the child fall asleep during feeding it will get used to that and will refuse to fall asleep without being fed before. On the contrary, putting a child to bed after it had been fed and waiting for it to fall asleep will create a desired associations with bed. The time of sleeping a baby depends on parents, some prefer to put children to bed in the early evening whereas others prefer to put them to bed at the same time when they are going sleeping.
A crying baby
In the first weeks of life children usually cry a lot but it is the only way of communicating their needs. They give a signal about things worrying them. These are the most common causes of crying:
A hungry child
If you thing that your baby child is hungry just feed it with your breast or give a bottle with milk. During the first weeks of life you should feed a baby as often as it shouts for. Make sure that the temperature in the room is warm enough, or if the child is too hot or cold. The best way to do that is by touching the baby's stomach. Check whether the child is comfortable, or if clothes aren't too loose or folded. Or maybe it simply has too wet or dirty diaper. Sometimes, your baby needs some comforting and hugging so spend several minutes hugging and kissing. It can also be tired, bored or bloated. Some children cry when they are ill or they're teething. In infants younger than 3 months old colic is a common cause of crying.
Parents' reaction
The research prove that children of mothers who quickly respond to child' crying are definitely much happier and more cheerful during their lifetime. So don't be afraid to run to your child when it cries, it has nothing in common with spoiling your child. This is a problem which may appear in the later stage of development of your child. The frequency of crying differs from child to child, some children do it often, some less frequently. But if you notice that your child is crying all the time or does it very often even though you do everything to make up for its needs, consult a doctor or a nurse.
