Description of disease:

Vaginismus is a sexual dysfunction during which a person's vaginal muscles tense unconsciously, irrespective of her will. This leads to inability to have any sexual intercourse, to perform tampon insertion or gynecological examination.
Vaginismus that develops from psychological problems is a defensive reaction which results from the fear of having sex, expectation of pain or lack of emotional closeness with the partner. It is also a sign of feeling ashamed, scared. Sometimes, it is a trained defensive reaction to previous traumatic experiences.
