You are in: Main Page / List of diseases / Litera U / Urolithiasis

Description of disease:

Urolithiasis also referred to as renal stones or renal calculi is a disease in which hard, solid stones form in the urinary tract.
There are several types of stones:
- phosphatic-calcerous
- oxaluria- calcerous
- formed from uric acid
- cysteine

The causes of renal stones are still unknown, however, some things are certain. Diet rich in calcium and such conditions as gout or intestine disease contribute to the stones creation.
The course of the disease may look differently, from lack of symptoms (stones can be painlessly eliminated from the organism) to intermittent pain in the back that radiates to the groins.

Painkillers relieve the pain and relaxants loosen the muscles, cramps recede and renal stone can be excreted with urine, if it is not too big. Nowadays, large renal stones are broken with ultrasound. The procedure lasts from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the stone size, and it doesn't demand surgical intervention.

Symptoms:

fever
hematuria (blood in urine)
kidney pain
nausea and vomitting
weakness

Research:

Urography
USG of the urinary tract

Doctors :

Nephrologist

Urologist
