/ Seropurulent Otitis Media

Description of disease:
 Seropurulent otitis media is a consequence of prolonged dysfunction of auditive tube caused by viral infection.
The disease develops from the blockage of fluid in the middle ear and in the area of eardrum. The disease affects children (up to 10 years old) most often and it may cause hearing loss.
The risk factors that are said to influence the development of seropurulent otitis media include:
- adenoid
- tubal tonsil
- chronic viral infection
- facial skeleton malformation, e.g. cleft palate
- deviation of the nasal septum and polyps in the nasal cavity
- benign or malignant tumor in nasal cavity
- food or pollen allergy
- recurrent infections of upper respiratory tract and otitis media
