Description of disease:
Rheumatoid arthritis is a common rheumatic disease which destroys articular tissues, impairs functioning of joints and may result in irreversible cripplehood. Rheumatoid arthritis attacks people of ages between 40 and 60, women more often than men.
Exact causes of the disease are still unknown but it is believed that the disease is genetically-induced, that it is influenced by several factors such as hormones, tobacco smoking and prolonged exposure to stress.
The disease recurs and recedes but a slow constant development of inflammation of synovium (lining of bones) leads to joint destruction. It finally leads to degerenations of joints of hands, feet e.g. callus or hallux form then, symphalangism, contractures or exudates in elbow joints. The disease attacks also hip joints, neck joints and knee joints and causes stiffness, pains, reduces mobility and deforms the shape of joints and limbs.
Ignoring such symptoms as tiredness, muscle pains, reduced appetite or morning stiffness is not recommended by doctors.
