Description of disease:

Rheumatic mitral valve insufficiency is a disease that affects mitral valve which divides left vestibule from the left ventricle. The disease results from improper mitral valve functioning during the heart beat. That causes the blood flowing backwards to the left vestibule. The insufficiency is a consequence of thickening and fibrosis of leaflets, ectasia of the left ventricle, damage to the tendinous threads or scarring of anulus fibrosus.
The disease is caused by heart failure and rheumatic condition, it may be symptomless for a long time.


Symptoms:


dyspnea, breathlessness
tachycardia (rapid beating of the heart)
weakness

Electrocardiography (EKG)
