/ Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Description of disease:
Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a disease of circulatory system in which blood pressure is constantly high or high blood pressure periods recur from time to time.
Primary hypertension causes are unknown and that is why it so difficult to cure this disease. Primary hypertension amounts to 90% of all the cases. Although the etiology is unknown it is said that certain genetic and environmental factors influence the development of this disease. We talk about the secondary hypertension if the causes are well known e.g diseases of brain, kidneys or endocrine glands. High blood pressure is usually discovered during a regular check-up.
Pulmonary hypertension is one of the biggest causes of cardiac diseases.
Pulmonary hypertension is a silent disease which gives no signs at first until complications appear e.g. kidney, circulatory system destruction or damage to the nervous system.
Symptoms are so vague and unclear (e.g. headache) that it is difficult to diagnose pulmonary hypertension.
High blood pressure can be reduced by:
- weight loss
- following the appropriate diet
- avoiding alcohol and salt
- reduction of the consumption of fat
- giving up smoking
- taking up physical exercises
