/ Otitis Media

Description of disease:
 Otitis media is the most frequent type of otitis. There are several kinds of otitis media:
- acute - affects mostly children and lasts up to three weeks, usually during autumn and winter. It may be associated with various infectious diseases such as scarlet fever, measles, varicella or sinusitis, injuries to the tympanic cavity and temporal bone, after adenoidotomy and in case of reduced immunity. The treatment demands antibiotic course, anti-inflammatory antipyretic drugs, painkillers and disinfectants.
- chronic otitis media - otitis media becomes chronic if it lasts more than three months, usually after an unhealed acute otitis which left a hole in the ear-drum, the ear-drum becomes destroyed and a patient suffers from perforation of the ear-drum and the ear discharge
- cholesteatoma -it is an infected tumor formed from scaling skin tissue, cholesterol masses, caked discharge and bacteria. It requires surgical operation.
Symptoms in toddlers include waking up at night, crying, loss of appetite, oversensitivity, vomiting, sometimes runny nose.
