Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by the loss of bone tissue due to age. The disease affects mostly women during menopause, it is silent until one bone breaks. The main cause of the osteoporosis is lack of production of female hormones. Osteoporosis rarely occurs in young women. The other causes of osteoporosis include low-calcium foods, alcohol abuse, tobacco smoking, slim figure, unhealthy lifestyle, heredity, corticosteroid treatment. The advanced form of osteoporosis may result in bone fractures or a hump creation. Women should have diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, each women should take at least 1000-1500 mg of calcium daily.
