/ Mitral Valve Insufficiency

Description of disease:
 Mitral Valve Insufficiency or Regurgitation is a heart disorder in which the valves are pathologically changed. The mitral valve doesn't close tightly enough and blood flows backwards to the heart.
This condition may be caused by:
- endocarditis resulting from rheumatoid diseases
- bacterial endocarditis
- endocarditis resulting from lupus erythematosus
- idiopatic calcification of the tendinous ring
- dysfunction of the left ventricle of the heart
The acquired heart defects frequently affect biscupid valve and semilunar valve. The right ventricles of the heart are not usually changed in the acquired heart defects, there is one exception: the inflammation resulting from lupus erythematosus.
The disease does not give any symptoms for many years, if any, they happen between 40 and 60.
The disease may be worsened by:
- male gender
- advanced age
- obesity
- high blood pressure
Symptoms:

dyspnea, breathlessness tachycardia (rapid beating of the heart)
