Description of disease:

Leukemia is a general name for the group of cancers of blood. It affects men more often than women. It is characterized by abnormal production of leukocytes (in blood, bone marrow and internal organs) which don't function properly. Leukemia may result in the cytokinetical, antigenic and metabolic changes that cannot be reversed.

There are no known causes of leukemia but risk factors include:
- exposure to chemicals
- genetic conditions
- high-energy radiation
- infections
- ion radiation


Leukemia can be divided into:
- acute lymphocytic leukemia
- acute myeloid leukemia
- chronic lymphocytic leukemia
- chronic myelegenous leukemia

Symptoms:


bronchitis
enlargement of the lymph nodes of the arm
epistaxis (nose bleeding)
frequent fever
gingival hemorrhage (bleeding)
liver and spleen enlargement
pain in joints
pallor
pharyngitis
reduced activity
weakness

Blood cell count
Roentgen of the chest
USG of the abdominal cavity
