/ Kaposi's Sarcoma

Description of disease:
 Kaposi's sarcoma is a cancer that causes patches of malignant cells growing under the skin.
There are four varieties that differ epidemiologically and clinically:

1) Classic Kaposi's sarcoma - affects elderly men who live in the Mediterranean region or Eastern Europe, it is not connected with HIV virus. The disease is characterized by multiple, red or bluish lesions: plaques or nodules on hands and feet which spread into other body areas. The disease may have periods of remissions and recurrence.
2) Endemic Kaposi's sarcoma - occurs among African population, especially in children
3) AIDS related Kaposi's sarcoma - develops on the mucous membranes and lymph nodes.
4) Transplant related Kaposi's sarcoma - Kaposi's sarcoma affects only skin, it appears several months or years after organ transplantation and often recedes when immunosuppresion is reduced.
