Description of disease:
Hodgkin's lymphoma or Hodgkin's disease is a cancer of the lymphatic system which attacks lymph nodes and lymphatic tissue. The course of the disease, prognoses and treatment are different from other diseases of the lymphatic system. Hodgkin's disease is easy to treat as this type of cancer rarely metastasizes even though it gives no symptoms for a long time and is diagnosed in an advanced stage. Hodgkin's disease leads to many immunological disorders.
The disease affects white adults most often, there are two peaks of the incidence of the disease: adults at the age of 25 or people over 50 years old, in undeveloped countries Hodgkin's lymphoma attacks children in the ages between 5 and 9.
The exact cause of the disease is yet unknown, it is said to be evoked by EBV virus or genetic factors which trigger cell mutations.
Hodgkin's disease is treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, surgical operations or even bone marrow transplant.
Doctors during examination check if lymph nodes are enlarged and not painful. Other symptoms include itchy red skin patches and pain in lymph nodes after previous alcohol consumption. It is essential to make blood cell count determination, x-raying test of the chest, USG, lymph node biopsy or even laparoscopy.
