You are in: Main Page / List of diseases / Litera H / Heart Attack, Myocardial Infarction

Description of disease:

Heart attack is the most frequent cause of death in civilized countries. The arteries are narrowed which is due to the cholesterol, lipids and proteins settling on the walls of blood vessels. That is why the heart receives not enough blood when it is stressed. During exercising, physical effort or sudden stress your heart needs to have more oxygen supplied in blood. If the arteries are severely narrowed or blocked, the risk of heart attack increases. Other causes of myocardial infarction may include a contraction of the artery or a thrombus blocking the blood flow, they are associated with the atheromatosis. Heart attacks are more common in the morning as the clotting capability of blood is bigger and the level of catecholamine increases.
