/ Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Description of disease:
 Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition of the gastrointestinal tract which is characterized by acid backing up from the stomach into the esophagus. Patients are advised to take antacids which stop acid production in the stomach. When nonsurgical methods of treatment fail, the next step is a fundoplication performed laparoscopically.
