Description of disease:

Epiglottitis is an acute inflammation of the upper larynx causing swallowing of the tissue of the larynx. The edema sometimes blocks the flow of air into the lungs and the ill person may suffocate. It is a severe condition that affects children below 10 (most often those aged between 2 and 7 years old). The symptoms appear suddenly and develop quickly, their consequence is breathlessness. That is why children should be taken to hospital as quickly as possible.


The best measure to prevent epiglottitis are vaccination.

dyspnea, breathlessness
excessive salivation
fever
hoarseness
loss of voice
sore throat
wheeze breathing
