Description of disease:

Bronchiectasis is a disease that affects the bronchi where the tiny hairs (cilia) inside the airways are damaged and are unable to clear the dirt and mucus out of a patient's lungs. This causes accumulation of mucus in the bronchial tubes and widening and weakening the air passages.

The treatment involves taking antibiotics, disinfectants or and cardiac drugs. The surgery is also possible when only a small area of lung is damaged, the surgeon cuts out the damaged airway to cure the problem.

Symptoms:


cough
dyspnea, breathlessness
expectoration of purulent secretion
hemoptysis (coughing with blood)
respiratory failure
