Our homes are full of many hazardous chemical substances which are present almost everywhere in consumer products. The effects of chemical substances are various and they are not controlled at homes. Although these days there are myriads of ecological discussions dealing with chemicals outside, many people don't realize that they live in closed spaces where the concentration of chemicals sometimes is much higher than in the air outside. Because of the fact that our senses loose sensitivity we don't notice certain smells in the areas we know. The worst thing about chemicals is that they don't have any smell very often.

Finding the link between the disease and chemical substances at home is difficult as this often happens with connection of a combination of various substances. One single poison usually does not possess enough power to cause a disease. The only exception from that are wood protecting chemicals and formaldehyde which can destroy the organism alone. After placing paints, lacquers and glues containing toxic substances on large surfaces they can create such dense concentrations that cause serious conditions: obnubilations, loss of concentration, headaches and nausea.

Those obvious symptoms of poisoning are rare as disorders called "home disease" happen much more frequently. People usualy suffer from conjunctiva and airways irritation, they claim to have frequent headaches, sleeping disorders, loss of concentration and fatigue.

The amount of fresh air at home depends on us as there are non-toxic equivalents of such products as building materials, chemicals and textiles. The only disadvantage is that they are very expensive and that they sometimes have less effective properties (e.g. paints). As people in shops are unaware of the properties of ecological products it is good to find such a shop which sells only non-toxic materials and projects. One of the effective and cheap ways is the usage of plants at home. One plant is able to remove air from 10 cubic meters.

The most frequent and hazardous substances:

SOLVENTS

They appear in paints, lacquers, gums, French polish, cleaning chemicals. Their high concentration in the air cause headaches, irritation of mucous membranes, disorders of nervous system, damages of liver and kidneys and some of them have carcinogenic properties.

FORMALDEHYDE

It appears in glues, lacquers and harl plates and foams. The disorders caused by it include: irritation of mucous membranes, infections of airways and connective tissue, headaches and lung damages.

CARBON DIOXIDE

It is present in heating appliances, gas ovens, fumes and atmospheric air. The abuse of carbon dioxide can cause headaches, dizziness and hypertension.

CARBON MONOXIDE

It is present in the air, heating appliances and hearth. It may make the oxygen flow blocked and cause blood circulation disorders.

NITRIC OXIDE

It appears in heating appliances, gas oven, tobacco smoke and the air. They can cause cough, sialosis, runny nose, problems with breathing and lung damages.

SULPHUR DIOXIDE

Appears in heating appliances, gas ovens, tobacco smoke, it causes irritation of mucous membranes, infections of airways and connective tissue, bronchitis and breathlessness.

DIPHENYL

It is present in various artificial fiber softeners, it causes headaches, dizziness, sleepiness, liver and kidney disorders. Phenol and styrene can have carcinogenic properties.

RADON

It is present in bricks, natural stones and in natural gas. It causes dizziness, stomach and bowel disorders and all other symptoms of of ionized rays.
